How to get a Real Estate License in Washington
To become a real estate agent in Washington, you must first get your Washington real estate license. The process of getting your real estate license generally takes a few months and includes the following steps:

Enroll in an Washington real estate school
The first step to getting your Washington real estate license is to enroll in a real estate school and complete a 90-hour real estate pre-licensing course.

Pass the course final exam
Once you have completed the 90-hour Washington real estate pre-licensing course, you must pass a course exam that will help prepare you for the state exam. The exam consists of 140 multiple choice questions for the salesperson license and 130 multiple choice questions for the broker license with a minimum passing score of 70%.

Complete the background check
To complete the background check, applicants must schedule and pay for a fingerprint appointment through identogo.com. The scanned fingerprints will be sent electronically to Washington State Patrol (WSP). If you are located in Washington, go to Fingerprinting and background checks for instructions on how to submit your fingerprints through IdentoGO. If you are located outside of Washington, call Real Estate Regulatory at 360.664.6484 for fingerprint card submission instructions. Licensees are required to submit fingerprints for initial licensure and every six (6) years afterward.

Apply for your Washington real estate license
Submit your application online by filling out the relevant form with the Washington State Department of Licensing either electronically or via mail.

Pass the state license exam
Licensing exams in Washington are conducted by PSI Examination Services. You must make a reservation with PSI no less than 24 hours before your examination date. You will be expected to provide a non-refundable examination fee.
