•Licenses issued before January 1, 2020 – April 30th of every even-numbered year.
•Licenses issued after January 1, 2020 – Every two (2) years on the anniversary of the date the license was issued.
Hours Required by Rhode Island Real Estate Commission: 24 hours
•9 mandatory hours
o3 hours in Fair Housing
o6 hours in any mandatory subject**
•15 elective hours
There is a one-time requirement for all licensees to take a lead poisoning/lead hazard mitigation course of not less than 3 hours if they did not already take it to gain licensure. The Rhode Island Lead Paint Mitigation course may be taken again for mandatory credit in a separate cycle if desired.
**Mandatory Subjects:
•Rhode Island law defining relationships between licensees and consumers;
•Rhode Island law pertaining to real estate licensure;
•Rhode Island landlord-tenant law;
•The law of contracts;
•Federal, Rhode Island, and local law pertaining to fair housing and the treatment of any individual in a protected class as designated in the Rhode Island Fair Housing Practices Act;
•Lead hazard mitigation or other environmental issues pertaining to real property;
•Local ordinances and regulations pertaining to residential real estate;
•Financing the purchase of real estate
•Ethical considerations in real estate transactions; or
•Coastal real estate, wetlands, flood plains and sea-rise.
Final Exam: While students are required to demonstrate mastery of the content at certain levels of the course, there are no passing requirement for the final exam.
Expiration Date of Course: Course expiration dates vary but are generally 6 months after enrollment date.
Certificate: With few exceptions, online course completion certificates are available for download at course conclusion and posted directly to your student dashboard.
