What is the difference between a Florida Broker & Salesperson?

The main difference between a salesperson and a broker license is that a broker has additional training and experience and the broker may work independently where a salesperson must work under a broker.

How much does it cost to get a Florida Broker License?

A real estate broker license in Florida can cost between $280 – $580 depending on your preferred real estate school and course. The cost of a broker license course in Florida at Colibri is between $190 – $399.

What experience do you need to get a Florida broker license?

Broker applicants must show proof of one of the following:
– Has been registered as an active sales associate for at least 24 months during the preceding 5 years under one or more brokers 
– Has held a current and valid real estate sales associate’s license for at least 24 months during the preceding 5 years in the employ of a governmental agency for a salary and performing the duties authorized in Chapter 475, F.S 
– Has held a current and valid real estate broker’s license for at least 24 months during the preceding 5 years in any other state, territory, or jurisdiction of the United States, or in any foreign national jurisdiction
 
Submitting a Certificate of License History: A current certification of license history from the state you are claiming experience from is required if experience is coming from a state other than Florida. The history must contain your initial license exam type, current license status, disciplinary information, and how many active months within the preceding five years.

How do I submit my Florida Broker license application?

Along with proof of licensing course completion, a passing score on the state broker licensing exam, and submission of fingerprints, applicants can apply for their real estate license through the DPBR Online Services portal. To complete the application using the online service, you must first set up your online account and link your current sales associate license to the account. Once that is complete, the broker application will be available.

Does Florida offer Broker License reciprocity?

Florida has mutual recognition with the following states: 
– Alabama
– Arkansas
– Connecticut
– Georgia
– Illinois
– Kentucky
– Mississippi
– Nebraska
– Rhode Island
– West Virginia

Brokers and Salespersons can qualify for an equivalent type license in Florida if they meet the following qualifications:
– Must be 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent
– Must not be a resident of Florida at time of application
– Have met the education and examination requirements of the state with which Florida has mutual recognition

Each licensee who applies for Florida licensure from a state or jurisdiction that has a current mutual recognition agreement with Florida must pass a written Florida-specific real estate law examination as well as be required to complete post-license education (45 hours for Sales Associates and 60 hours for Brokers) prior to your initial expiration date listed on your Florida license.
